Real Support - Real Growth - Real Futures

Real Life Education (RLE) empowers young people to grow, belong, and thrive - in REAL LIFE.

We believe in lifelong learning that goes beyond the classroom. We help provide young people with the tools to succeed emotionally, socially, physically, and academically. Through a unique blend of mentoring, therapeutic support, education and sport, we work closely with young people, their families and communities to foster growth and create lasting impact - especially for those who’ve faced challenges in traditional settings.

Our Approach

At RLE, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. We build wraparound support tailored to each young person’s story - giving them the space and structure to move forward.

  • Mentoring - Positive, consistent, aspirational role models guiding and inspiring personal growth.
  • Therapeutic, Clinical & Psychology Services – Tailored pathways meeting each young person where they are - supporting emotional wellbeing, mental health, and personal development through therapeutic relationships, psychological insight, and clinical expertise.
  • Flexible Accredited Learning Pathways – Designed around individual strengths, interests, and future goals.
  • Sport & Physical Development – Building confidence, discipline, and connection through movement and teamwork

Our Commitment

Belonging, inclusivity, and real-life impact are at the heart of everything we do.

Whether a young person is in care, out of school, struggling with mental health, or simply seeking a fresh start, RLE is a place where they’re seen, supported, and given the opportunity to reconnect, rebuild and rise.

The Problem

Every week, an average of 220 young people are permanently excluded from school.

Each exclusion is estimated to cost the state £370,000 over a lifetime and the personal cost to a young person’s future can be even greater.

10x

Young people in care are 10 times more likely to be excluded from school than their peers.

REAL LEARNING PLAN (RLP)

The Real Learning Plan (RLP)/baseline assessment is the cornerstone of our educational philosophy - a personalised roadmap crafted to navigate each young person’s unique and bespoke learning journey.

Developed collaboratively, the RLP identifies previous and current strengths, areas for growth, learning preferences, and both educational and life goals.

By tailoring  supportive methods to each young person’s specific needs, the RLP fosters a learning experience that is not only effective but also meaningful and relevant.

More than just meeting educational standards, the RLP is about empowering young people to reach their full potential.

What Guides Our Work

Our work is guided by three core pillars:

Person-Centered, Practical and Purpose-Driven.

These principles shape how we support young people to discover and develop their inner champion-the part of them that believes, persists and leads with purpose.

Person-Centered

Whole Person, Whole Journey

We put the young person at the heart of everything we do.

Our whole-person, whole-journey approach ensures that every aspect of their development.

By understanding each young person’s needs, strengths, and aspirations, we create personalised pathways that help them thrive, build resilience, and achieve meaningful, lasting outcomes.

Practical

Turning Vision into Action

We focus on building real-life skills that strengthen each young person’s ability to thrive- both in their everyday life and in an ever-changing world.

We focus on nurturing key skills that are not only valued by today’s employers, but also essential for personal wellbeing and growth:

These qualities help them remain engaged, adaptable and committed to continuous personal development skills that serve them well throughout life.
Purpose-Driven

Creating Meaningful Change

Everything we do is focused on making a real difference in the lives of children & young people. RLE SUPPORTING TEAM WIGAN AND LEIGH

We’re proud to announce that RLE is sponsoring the Charity Golf Day on 20th June, alongside many other local businesses such as JJH Building Contractors Ltd Builders and Greenmount Projects, supporting Team Wigan and Leigh and Wigan and Leigh Hospice. ⛳️
This fantastic event has already raised over £13,000 to help fund the vital care and support Wigan and Leigh Hospice provides to individuals and families in our community. We’re honoured to be part of such a meaningful initiative.
Best of luck to our very own Jordan Turner and all the teams taking part - we’re excited for a memorable day on the course, all in support of this incredible cause.

Adam & JT at The Rugby League Cares Q1 Club Wellbeing Managers Meeting

Discussing their journeys so far, the impact RLE is having on children and young people and how rugby league equips players with invaluable transferable skills into other careers, including MENTORING.

Our model combines our in-house clinical team & mentoring service - engaging, empowering and evolving vulnerable young people and the team around the child with bespoke programmes, interventions and training. It’s this combination

of professionals and life experienced aspirational mentors and coaches that has proven to have a transformative effect.

We look forward to offering the opportunity of joining the growing RLE team to many more current professional rugby league players - especially those who are going part time and those who are transitioning out of the game.

'YOU CAN TURN YOUR LIFE AROUND'

RLE Mentor Suaia Matagi instills a never give up mindset and encourages our young people to continue to chase their dreams.

'My new sense of purpose is to help inspire people to not make the same mistakes that I did - and show those who have made bad choices that it isn't over when you hit prison or go the wrong way and I am proof of that, my story helps light up the path towards success'

RLE Safeguarding Policy

Real Life Education (RLE) provides holistic, wrap-around support to young people and staff teams. RLE is not a school, not registered with the Department for Education (DfE) and does not deliver statutory full-time education.

The [Commissioning School/Academy/Local Authority/Residential Care Provider] retains full responsibility for the pupil’s admission, roll, attendance, full-time education and for meeting any special educational needs/EHCP requirements.

RLE’s services are complementary to school or AP provision, providing support to ensure stability, safety, wellbeing and personal development for young people, while strengthening staff teams and the wider residential environment. Programmes such as the L.I.F.E. Programme support young people to develop healthy lifestyles, personal skills, future readiness and engagement with education, employment or training.
